Spearmint Rhino had their Glasgow license revoked in 2009 but recently made an application to the local council to have it re-instated. We wish to raise an objection to this with the local council and will be campaigning that the lap dancing club does not come back to Glasgow.
Derby Day Domestic Violence
A study last year showed that during Old Firm matches the domestic violence rate can
more than double. We will be making our presence known on derby day to show that domestic violence is never ever acceptable.
iHollaback!
Tired of causal sexual street harassment? Hollaback! is a campaign that started in New York and has spread to many other cities. The aim of Hollaback! is to create unity amongst women who have experiences this kind of sexual harassment and create a
critical mass of testimonials from women. We will be starting a Hollaback! Glasgow, giving women the space to share their stories of sexual harassment and encouragement to speak up against it.
Feminist Fridays are a small, but effective, campaign against the objectification of women on lads mags and soft score porn available in newsagents and supermarkets. We encourage women, as a group, to cover up these offensive images with their own anti-sexist slogans. We’ll be planning some trips in small groups and sharing our experiences of Feminist Fridays.
Ladyfest Glasgow- Many of us would love to have another Ladyfest Glasgow in which we can celebrate women singers, bands, artists, poets, theatre and, of course, have a rollicking good time. We’llbe arranging fundraisers this year so we can run another women-orientated arts extravaganza!
